The ‘automatic motorcycle’. What better definition could there be for Scarabeo!
Ever since it first came out, Scarabeo has delighted owners with its stable, pleasant ride and the great sensation of safety that it transmits. Its fascination and original design are destined to last and have consolidated a tremendous success story, turning Scarabeo into a whole way of life.
Growth in popularity has been followed by growth in engine size. Scarabeo grew from a 150 to a 200 in 2001. Now in 2004, Aprilia’s automatic motorcycle has become a 250, demonstrating the high
level of technical perfection it has achieved. Everything about the 250 is new: engine, frame, brakes and body all testify to the extent of the modifications introduced with respect to the previous 200 version.
Not only a versatile and nippy urban scooter, Scarabeo has also become
a practical tourer and load carrier. Scarabeo is safe to ride and has a
clear sense of civic responsibility. And its distinctive, classical
Italian style gives it a charisma all of its own.
DESIGN
Scarabeo is the undisputed protagonist of our towns and cities. Elegant
and original with its new lighter mudguards, leg shield and white light
direction indicators, the latest model perfects the concept of
classical-modern design and combines technical innovation with a style
that transcends passing fashion.
Scarabeo is one of the very few products capable of respecting the
dictates of classical elegance while also symbolising the epitome of
modernity. Scarabeo is the highest expression of form and functionality.
It is the first ever scooter specifically designed to combat atmospheric
and acoustic pollution and look good too. The shape of the things that
surround us influence how we live, feel and act. With its knowingly smooth
lines, relaxing design and colours, Scarabeo really does enhance our
lives.
CHASSIS
Scarabeo goes well beyond the levels of safety normally expected from an
urban commuter, and can satisfy the demands of even the most expert
motorcyclist. Unique, exclusive riding pleasure is guaranteed by a new
frame and an integral braking system that combine to improve precision,
road holding and safety.
Equipped with 16” alloy wheels and wide tubeless tyres, Scarabeo is the
reference point for the category. Only Scarabeo can turn congested city
traffic into a daily pleasure ride. In town Scarabeo is agile,
streamlined, essential, and able to nip through the tightest jams. On the
motorway Scarabeo is stable, steadfast, and imperturbable even in the wake
of trucks and in gusty conditions. On mountain roads Scarabeo is precise
and maneuverable and eager for sports riding.
This exceptional handling has been achieved by the use of large diameter
wheels, perfect weight distribution and a new high strength, tubular
steel, single spar with double cradle frame that is more than capable of
handling a higher power engine. The suspension is up to the task too. The
hydraulic telescopic fork is the perfect combination of comfort and
control, and the rear shock absorber can be adjusted to suit variations in
load.
A new integral braking system automatically distributes force between the
front and back wheels, both equipped with powerful disc brakes. The
generous grip of the tyres enables riders to make full use of this system
while maintaining total control over braking.
Finally, Scarabeo’s natural balance and upright riding position provide
the sort of enhanced active safety typical of a motorcycle.
ENGINE
Behind its original, personal image, the Scarabeo hides sophisticated and
advanced technology. Its new 250 cc engine is water cooled four strokes
incorporating advanced features like 4 valve heads, overhead cams and
liquid cooling.
This engine combines silent running and controllable, smooth power
delivery with standard setting performance. Acceleration form a standstill
is brusque, as is overtaking (even with a passenger) for bags of riding
pleasure in town traffic and on country roads.
The Scarabeo 250’s engine delivers a full 21 HP for impressive
performance: Scarabeo’s top speed keeps it well ahead of the traffic
even on busy high speed routes. Finally, Scarabeo’s automatic
transmission is the perfect match for the advanced single cylinder four
stroke engine, allowing the rider to make full use of the power available.
Yet despite its high specific power, Scarabeo is also environmentally
aware. Its catalysed exhaust ensures that it easily satisfies the latest
emission control legislation.
Scarabeo is not about performance alone: it is an extremely civil means of
transport. Its engine compartment is lined with special sound-proofing
material for a relaxed and unobtrusive ride.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT
Scarabeo pays a great deal of attention to comfort and practicality. That
is why it is perfect as an urban commuter and touring motorcycle. In fact,
Scarabeo is a real ‘multipurpose’ vehicle.
Comfort and ergonomics are fully catered for. Excellent riding comfort is
guaranteed by an adjustable ‘maxi’ seat that allows both the rider and
the passenger to find the best, most natural sitting position for their
legs and for back support.
Scarabeo 250 is fitted as standard with the Scarabeo 500 top box, complete
with a high, padded, passenger backrest. This generous top box is deep
enough to contain two full face helmets and sets Scarabeo 250 in a class
of its own for carrying capacity.
Behind the leg shield another generous, lockable compartment provides
plenty of storage for the objects you need most frequently.
Instrumentation is complete and easy to read and includes a speedometer,
mileometer, fuel gauge, coolant temperature gauge and clock. Discrete but
effective leg shield protectors prevent annoying damage to the paintwork.
The multi-focal headlight with high luminosity halogen bulb provides ample
light for night riding.
Welcome to the world of Scarabeo!
